8 oktober.....
October 8th..... The first morning in Pacaud..... how lovely it is again to sit here at the table with a cup of tea, with a snoring Barkley on the floor next to me. It is still pitch black and it is raining...... sounds cozy though, those tapping drops on the window...... the start of a beautiful day..... 34 years ago it was a truly beautiful day..... that was when eldest daughter Lieneke was born..... 34 years old already..... Who could have imagined back then that she has been celebrating that birthday in New Zealand for years now.... the country to which she has pledged her heart, just as I have pledged mine to France. The journey to Pacaud went super smoothly yesterday! Sunshine on the way, but as we headed towards the Auvergne, we saw the dark clouds gathering. A beautiful sight. And even in the rain, the first sight of our little house is heartwarming once again. How wonderful it is to come home then. Even though it was my husband who left the cottage alone about three weeks ago, it looked tidy๐, only the fridge was a bit of an issue.... he had forgotten to take out the bacon slices......๐ฑ, they had already wandered into the kitchen on their own... (well.....figuratively speaking, of course). And what is it about this place that makes me feel sooooo at home here in this little spot......but there are also so many beautiful memories and mementos that have found a place in this little house....little paintings by my grandfather, a framed poster of Monet's "Sous les lilas", a candlestick from my mother-in-law, a small cabinet from the "free corner" of the thrift store that I refurbished, all my collected tableware, a small child's head from the Mobach pottery factory that I received on my 17th birthday from my boss at the gift shop where I worked on Saturdays.....the bookcase with all those wonderful books, the bedspread we once bought in an amazing little shop in Sommieres......and I could go on and on.....this little house is a collection of things with memories....... We won't be staying "long"..... a week and a half... my vacation days are running out......but every day is a celebration here. We do have plans. Friend Patrick is coming on Friday to help out for a few days and enjoy ourselves. He has some time on his hands at the moment, so we didn't turn down the offer to help. He and his wife Rosemarie were here last summer too, and we made a start on the kitchen in the Grange. Then there is also an event this weekend involving the historic parade of vintage vehicles in Lapalisse, and as car enthusiasts, the gentlemen naturally have to go... and me too, by the way... way too much fun... (I'll come back to that later...) and we have to try out the "new" little restaurant in La Guillermie, the small village a few kilometers away! There is already so little in the surrounding villages, so we definitely have to go eat there! Support your fellow residents... So plenty to do in the coming days...
