Een Nederlander, die ik denk, in de jaren 60 naar Frankrijk vertrok en daar zanger werd. En wat voor een zanger...mega en mega populair in Frankrijk, nu nog steeds is hij een van de groten, met een verkoop van miljoenen platen. In Nederland was hij een stuk minder bekend. Hij scoorde denk ik in Nederland twee hits, Dansez maintenant en Du coté de Chez Swann. Hij is nu 81 jaar oud (haha, geboren op 4 mei) en treedt nog steeds op. Twee jaar terug waren we in Luik naar een concert van hem geweest en nu hij in Groningen optrad, zo dichtbij!, konden we dat niet zo maar aan ons voorbij laten gaan.

Er waren al optredens in Amsterdam, in Carré, en Eindhoven geweest en gisteravond dus in Groningen. Lag het aan de avond, maandagavond, of aan het noorden van het land......waren de zalen in de andere twee steden zo goed als uitverkocht, hier in Groningen was de zaal nog niet voor een kwart gevuld. Dat vond ik wel heel triest. Dan sta je daar op het podium en dan zie je die lege zaal.....

We hadden plaatsen op de tweede rij...front-loge.....dat was wel mooi. Het was leuk en het was vooral nostalgisch.... daar stond toch een mega grote ster.......

Dat vind ik het mooie van Frankrijk... daar worden de oude sterren echt op handen gedragen......een noot hier en daar die niet meer gehaald wordt.... tant pis....... daar staat een ster en die moet vereerd worden.... en dat is eigenlijk wel heel erg mooi.

En wat een energie heeft die man! Bijna twee uur lang non-stop.....pfffffff en hoe meer hij zich inzette hoe beter zijn zang was... er was een a capella stuk dat hij zong.... nou..... toen vond ik zijn stem op zijn best...

Dave, a Dutchman who I believe left for France in the 60s and became a singer there. And what a singer... mega, mega popular in France; even now he is one of the greatests, with millions of records sold. In the Netherlands, he was much less known. I think he scored two hits in the Netherlands: *Dansez maintenant* and *Du coté de Chez Swann*. He is now 81 years old (haha, born on May 4th) and still performs. Two years ago, we went to a concert of his in Liège, and now that he was performing in Groningen—so close!—we couldn't just let that pass us by. There had already been performances in Amsterdam, at Carré, and Eindhoven, and so last night in Groningen. Was it the evening, Monday night, or the north of the country...? While the venues in the other two cities were practically sold out, here in Groningen the hall wasn't even a quarter full. I found that very sad. Then you stand there on the stage and you see that empty hall..... We had seats in the second row... front box..... that was nice. It was fun and it was especially nostalgic.... there stood a huge star after all....... That is what I find beautiful about France... there, the old stars are really held in high regard...... a note here and there that isn't hit anymore.... too bad....... there stands a star and he must be revered.... and that is actually very beautiful. And what energy that man has! Almost two hours non-stop..... pfffffff and the more he put in the effort, the better his singing was... there was an a cappella piece he sang.... well..... that was when I thought his voice was at its best... I enjoyed it..........
