Kun je je het voorstellen? 82 jaar en je hebt de zaal al plat bij je opkomst. En dan geef je een ruim 2 uur durend concert.... ongelooflijk.

 Ik heb het over Michel Fugain die gister optrad in Luik en wij waren er bij. De kaartjes had ik al maanden in huis, want ik wilde nog één keer naar zijn optreden.  Michel Fugain is mijn teener-idool. Ik werd fan doordat de KRO in, wat zal het zijn? 1978? op de tv zijn optreden uitzond. Samen met zijn Big Bazar zetten ze een geweldig optreden neer, een troep jongelui die het leven vierden. Zo zag ik dat toen op 15 jarige leeftijd. Zo begon ook mijn liefde voor Frankrijk en de Franse taal.

Ik kocht zijn LP's en kon al zijn liedjes meezingen en nu nog ken ik de meeste teksten uit mijn hoofd. Vijf, zes jaar geleden ben ik ooit eens naar een concert van hem nabij Lyon geweest, bij een kasteeltje, op de " cour" aldaar, in de open lucht. Wat een belevenis was dat! Dat zou ik nog wel een keer mee willen maken. Dus hield ik toch zijn concertagenda wat in de gaten.  Toen ik vorig jaar zag dat hij in Luik zou optreden,  en ook nog in het Forum, zo' n prachtige locatie, tsja,,,,toen moesten we wel gaan natuurlijk!  Best een eindje rijden maar dat moet je er voor over hebben. 

En het was de moeite waard. Wat een geweldige stem heeft die man toch. Als ik mijn ogen dicht deed stond daar nog steeds die stoere man met lange haardos en wilde baard, laarzen aan...... Geweldig! En dat op zijn 82e... wat zeg ik? In mei wordt hij 83!

Het Forum was afgeladen met allemaal Michel Fugain fans...vanaf het eerste lied zong iedereen uit volle borst mee. Wel wat jammer voor mijn opnames want daarop hoor je vooral de achterburen luidkeels (en vals) meezingen zo nu en dan (Ik was het dus niet😃). Hij praatte wel erg veel tussen de chansons door, dat herinner ik me nog van de vorige keer. Het meeste kon ik wel volgen, maar sommige grapjes mis je dan toch zo nu en dan. Daarvoor moet je de Franse taal dan nog beter beheersen. Maar we hebben genoten...vooral van de chansons die hij in zijn tijd met Le Big Bazar zong. Al weer 50 jaar geleden zoals hij ook vertelde.....50 Jaar! Pfffff. Nog steeds voldoet hij niet aan hoe ik dacht dat hij zou zijn vroeger... nog steeds vind ik tenminste dat hij zichzelf graag hoort praten..... dat rijmt niet bij mijn visie van hem destijds. Ook van zijn kauwgom-kauwende huidige echtgenote vind ik wat. Zij zingt mee in de band die hem begeleidt. Maar ik ben waarschijnlijk bevooroordeeld en "hang" nog steeds aan zijn vrouw van destijds, Stephanie, die ook deel uitmaakte van Le Big Bazar. Mede door een zeer trieste gebeurtenis, nl het overlijden van hun jongste dochter, is het huwelijk uit elkaar gevallen. 

Om terug te komen op het concert:  ik kende alle chansons en de meeste kon ik (zachtjes, in mijzelf) meezingen. Natuurlijk kon "Une belle histoire" niet ontbreken. Hij zong het nog net zo mooi als vroeger en ik krijg er altijd tranen in mijn ogen van. Wat een goede stem heeft hij nog steeds. Waar je wel aan merkte dat hij een mooie leeftijd heeft bereikt, was dat hij een paar keer de tekst kwijt was.....maar dat mag ook wel als je bijna 83 bent en gewoon 2 uur lang op het podium staat. 

Nogmaals... wat hebben we genoten......dit weekend treedt hij volgens mij nog op in Lille en ik kan niet anders meegeven...ben je een fan.................ga!!!!!!!

 

 

Can you imagine? 82 years old and you already have the house in stitches when you enter. And then you give a concert that lasts over 2 hours... unbelievable.

I'm talking about Michel Fugain who performed yesterday in Liège and we were there. I had the tickets at home for months, because I wanted to go to his performance one more time. Michel Fugain is my teenage idol. I became a fan because the KRO broadcasted his performance on TV in, what was it? 1978? Together with his Big Bazar they put on a great performance, a group of young people who celebrated life. That's how I saw it then at the age of 15. That's how my love for France and the French language began.

I bought his LPs and could sing along to all his songs and now I still know most of the lyrics by heart. Five or six years ago I went to a concert of his near Lyon, at a small castle, on the "court" there, in the open air. What an experience that was! I would like to experience that again. So I kept an eye on his concert schedule. When I saw last year that he would perform in Liège, and also in the Forum, such a beautiful location, well,,,,then we had to go of course! Quite a drive but that is worth it.

And it was worth it. What a great voice that man has. When I closed my eyes, there was still that tough man with long hair and wild beard, boots on...... Great! And that at the age of 82... what am I saying? He will be 83 in May!

The Forum was packed with Michel Fugain fans...from the first song everyone sang along at the top of their lungs. Too bad for my recordings because you can mainly hear the neighbors behind him singing along loudly (and out of tune) every now and then (so it wasn't me😃). He did talk a lot between the chansons, I remember that from the last time. I could follow most of it, but you do miss some jokes every now and then. For that you need to have a better command of French. But we enjoyed it...especially the chansons he sang in his time with Le Big Bazar. Already 50 years ago as he also said.....50 years! Pfffff. He still doesn't live up to how I thought he would be in the past...at least I still think he likes to hear himself talk.....that doesn't rhyme with my vision of him back then. I also have something to say about his current chewing gum-chewing wife. She sings along in the band that accompanies him. But I am probably biased and still "hang" on to his wife from back then, Stephanie, who was also part of Le Big Bazar. Partly due to a very sad event, namely the death of their youngest daughter, the marriage fell apart.  

To return to the concert: I knew all the chansons and I could sing along to most of them (softly, to myself). Of course "Une belle histoire" could not be missed. He sang it just as beautifully as before and it always brings tears to my eyes. What a good voice he still has. What you could tell that he has reached a beautiful age, was that he forgot the text a few times.....but that's allowed when you are almost 83 and just stand on stage for 2 hours.

Again... we enjoyed it so much......I think he is performing again this weekend in Lille and I can only say...are you a fan.................go!!!!!!!
