En dan is er nog het facebook-stukje van Lieneke..... heb het met tranen in mijn ogen gelezen:
It’s been crazy/hectic and most of all scary & surreal.
It’s unbelievable how much power Mother Nature holds when it breaks through the man made barriers.
I’ve never seen water rise so quickly, all after the stock banks in town breached. Within minutes, while we were out trying to get our chooks /animals to safety and higher ground we got cut off and we’re left surrounded by water. I’ve never been more scared in my life. we didn’t know how to get out and if we ever could with the water rising by the minute.
While waiting some of our lambs got stuck on a tiny bit of land too and tried swimming towards us while they took a leap of faith. Two of them didn’t manage to reach dry land and got stuck in the fence, which was absolutely horrible to watch, fortunately it was near us so Matthew managed to grab both them!
While we tried waving down every car on the road in the mean time to get help. Lucky for us a cop had stranded on our road which was blocked off both ways by the flood! He got us a helicopter which got us out. It was a night with no sleep while we could only think about what we might find the next morning.
Thankfully all our stock managed to stay dry and safe on the bits of high and dry land left!
90% percent of our place was under water and all our fences are gone and we’ve got a big mess to clean up, no water or power, but we and our animals for whom we risked our lives have all made it out!
