Wohooooo, had ik me daar toch even een mooi servies!

It was a busy day yesterday... First of all, Monday is of course market day in Le Mayet de Montagne. We were in the mood for trout and my tasty goat cheeses were all gone, so we really "had" to go there. It was raining softly and cloudy, but even then, it is beautiful here. In the meantime, I had seen on Facebook that there was a Vide Grenier in Mayet... a sort of garage sale at a house in Mayet. Maybe it would be nice to take a look there too. We decided to go to the Vide Maison (literally: empty house) first and then to the market afterwards. In a back street in Mayet, we soon found the house where the Vide Maison was being held. A few friendly ladies were standing by the door and greeting everyone. And then you were allowed to walk through the whole house... to see if there was anything to your liking. In the room on the right, I saw all kinds of crockery, so naturally I had to take a look there first. And what was standing there? A beautiful, extensive hunting dinner service featuring all kinds of birds such as pheasants, quail, etc. Very complete with serving dishes, deep and shallow plates, a gravy boat... Beautiful. I decided to ask one of the ladies what they wanted for it. We quickly agreed on the price. Wohooooo, what a beautiful service I had there! I started chatting with one of the ladies. The house had belonged to their parents and everything was being sold; once the house was empty, the house itself would go up for sale. It was actually a strange idea to wander through that house like that. I did feel a bit embarrassed snooping around among all someone else's stuff... but on the other hand, it was also really nice to see the inside of a house like that. Among all the items, Frank found a beautiful old shotgun with exquisite fittings. The son of the house explained to him in detail how it worked. So, he came along too. After another walk around the house and garden, we headed towards the market where we picked up trout and some tasty goat cheeses from that nice lady at her little stall. On the way back, we also passed the flea market and couldn't resist popping inside for a quick look – Frank's idea, of course 😀. There were lots of new items again, but unfortunately some things were quite pricey, like a beautiful pitcher in the shape of a duck... there were three of them, but they were really above my budget. And... we were also going to Emmaus in the afternoon... so we had to wait a bit... Then back home, where I first laid out my beautiful hunting china on the sofa. That will soon go into the cupboard in the Grange in the kitchen. In the afternoon, we went to Emmaus again. There, too, you could feast your eyes on all the beautiful things. I can't tear myself away, especially from the room labeled "Vaiselle"... beautiful tableware there....... I restrained myself: just two small bowls on a foot,a salad bowl from Digoin (I already have plates and other bowls with that pattern), some cute tiny glasses for a nice liqueur, and small bowls to present an avocado in (Frank eats a lot of avocado these days, and if you put half an avocado on a plate, it always tips over; in these little bowls, it fits perfectly). Well, neat, isn't it? Frank also bought quite a lot: a load of French CDs, a heavy petrol-powered hedge trimmer, and a fish pan, brand new, to make preparing our trout easier tonight. So... it was a real thrift store day... starting tomorrow, we have to work... the guest rooms need to be prepared for our guests... Oh well... and then I just saw a text from last night asking if we are coming for lunch at J&B's this afternoon... oooooo... there goes the afternoon... we still have so much to do... luckily they live nearby and the lunch is actually quite nice... but... not too long then... we really do have to work today...
